Camp NaNoWriMo Week 1

We are already a week into Camp NaNo, and I forgot to do any sort of "weeeeew, kick off!" post, because that would require forethought, and we all know I'm not very good at that.

What is Camp NaNo, you might ask? Why are there so many capitalized Ns? What's going on? Where am I?

Those are all great questions. Let's start with the first one. Camp NaNoWriMo is what I like to call NaNoWriMo (or National Novel Writing Month) Lite. For those of you who missed the shenanigans of NaNoWriMo in November, the goal is to write at least 50,000 of a story in a month. That averages out to about 4ish pages a day. That's a lot of pages, y'all. Camp NaNo takes place in during the month of July, and is a way to keep that writing momentum going, but there's suggested writing goal. You can do whatever the heck you want. (You might be asking yourself - this sounds familiar. Yes, it's because Elley did a post about it previously.)

Personally, I am shooting for 20,000 words in a month, with the knowledge that life gets busy, and it's mostly just to get me motivated to write, and to hang out with the other ladies in the Bookquarium.

So geez, Peekaboo, what are you writing?
Well, good people of this bookish fish tank, it's basically porn at this point. I should probably be embarrassed, but I'm not, and here's why. America is a garbage fire. The whole world is pretty much awful, but America especially is making terrible choices, and people are assholes, and depression and anxiety are grabbing me by the throat as a result. So instead of attempting to plot out a novel, figure out who does what where, and why and how, a beginning, an ending, etc, I just decided to take some characters I like (see: all the pretty boys from Final Fantasy XV) and throw them onto the page to see what they do.

My brain decided they wanted to have lots of sex and fall in love, so damnit, that is what they're doing.

I'm only 7kish words in so far, but I want to get more done this weekend. The truth is, I feel BETTER when I write. The creative outlet is good for my brain. It loosens anxiety's hold somewhat, and makes me feel happy but also productive.

When everything is awful, do what makes you happy, and that's what I'm doing.
More updates to follow. I may get brave and post some of the porny goodness on here, but more than likely, I'll keep it for myself and my writing friends.
Also: are you doing Camp NaNo? Tell me what you're writing about!!

Love,
